Kolam, which means beauty done by the goddess. Every woman likes to do kolam. The kolam is drawn to welcome the GOD to our home. It gives the positivity to the home. There are many type of kolam like dot (pulli) kolam, rangoli, free hand rangoli, kambi kolam (sikku kolam/neli kolam), padi kolam, pongal kolam, flower, peacock kolam and so many.

Kolam or Rangoli also known as Muggulu is a form of traditional art drawn on the floor. It's origin belongs to Tamil Nadu, India. And Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and few in north india like Maharashtra, Goa etc.
More other countries also done rangoli kolam, ie., Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Finland, Malaysia, Indonesia and few other Asian countries.
Rangoli kolam drawn by using rice flour or white stone powder or chalk power.
A kolam or muggulu or rangoli is composed by using many geometrical lines, round shape and more. In Tamil Nadu, andhra Pradesh, Telangana most of the Indian house wives are doing rangoli kolam done on the entrance of their houses.
In Tamil Nadu most of the femeles are drawn the rangoli kolam on their entrance of the house every day. It's done by daily routine. In some of the houses they are drawn two times in a day. Ie., Early morning in sunrise and evening end of the sunrise.
Kolam brings the prosperity to the house. It is a belief that it brings the positive energy or positive vibes to the house.
Kolam or Rangoli drawn for welcomes the goddess Laxmi to their houses. Also in ancient days people used to drawn kolam by using kolam powder ( Rice flour) is the food for birds. People are invites to give foods for birds, squirrel etc.,
Last but not the least kolam/ rangoli is very useful for us in many ways. It is give us good health by doing kolam and improves our health as we doing like yoga.
